Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau says their budget allocation will allow them to focus on optimizing service delivery.
It will also allow them in maximizing operational efficiency and driving physical efficiency.
Koroilavesau says these objectives were established to ensure effective project implementation and increase compliance with fisheries laws and regulations.
The 2019/2020 fiscal envelop anchors the ministry’s work on increasing the fisheries sector contributions to the nations GDP. The ministry’s program will focus on increased aquaculture, coastal and offshore fisheries productivity and decrease in the negative socio-economic impacts that result from non-compliance to our fisheries regulations in both inshore and offshore fisheries.
The Ministry has been allocated $17.2million in the 2019-2020 Budget.
Koroilavesau says they have set aside $300,000 for the Makogai Marine culture research Centre which focuses boosting fish farming.
