Nakavika village gets a new dam

Villagers of Nakavika in the interior of Seaqaqa now no longer have to collect water from the river.

For years, the villagers have had to rely on the river running beside the village for bathing, washing, cooking and drinking.

Today, the village has a newly installed dam and a 45, 460 litre storage reservoir that will supply water to households.

Commissioning the $81, 000 project this afternoon, Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate says government through the Water Authority, is prioritizing access to clean and safe water.

Usamate says every Fijian deserves to live with security and happiness that only clean drinking water can provide.

The project will benefit 30 households, a total of 180 Fijians.
