A number of Nadi zone 2 taxi drivers stage protest over Police chase

A number of Nadi zone 2 taxi drivers are raising concerns as to why they are being chased from taxi bases in Namaka by the Police.

Zoeb Hassan says more than 40 Nadi zone 2 taxi drivers were told to move their vehicles out of taxi bases in various locations in Namaka yesterday.

Hassan claims that the Police Officer informed them that they were not allowed to operate from any taxi base in Namaka.

“When we got the permit from the Attorney General last year, we were informed it will be open base and we could park at any base when there’s space and do jobs from there but now we have been chased.”

Another Nadi zone 2 taxi driver Javaid Ahmed Begg says they are now confused as to where they should operate from.

Begg says this was because the Land Transport Authority had confirmed that from January 1st, 2019, the new zone open taxi base operations will be implemented.

We have sent questions to LTA who have confirmed they will respond today.
