Sugarcane farmers in Nadi are already in the mix of delivering their cane to the Lautoka Mill.

Cane farmer, Rashmeer Singh says that he has harvested about 100 tonnes of cane so far.

“Mill started two weeks back and we only harvested two days of cane here in my farm so we only harvested 100 tonnes of cane but we are estimating 500 tonnes of cane and also the Mill was not that good and we are hoping that it will be alright in the next two weeks.”

Another cane farmer Bal Ram Naidu says that despite facing labor issues, they still managed to harvest the targeted amount of cane to the Lautoka Mill.

Naidu says he is now awaiting for the second quota from the field officer.

For majority of farmers in Nadi, the issues faced by the Lautoka Mill did not really affect them.
