Nabua drug officer bailed

The Suva Magistrates Court has granted bail to a suspended police officer charged with one count of theft and one count of interfering with evidence.

Kaipate Bakoa is alleged to been responsible for the missing marijuana exhibits at the Nabua Police Station.

Police prosecution did not oppose Bakoa’s bail while there was no DPP lawyer present in court.

He told the court that he is a sole bread winner in the family and he has been exposed to verbal abuse from cell mates while being remanded at Korovou remand centre.

Bakoa has been ordered to surrender all his travel documents and report to the Totogo Police Station Mondays to Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

The court has also ordered a stop departure order against Bakoa to be put in place immediately.

The case has been adjourned to August 13.
