November 28, 2015 12:21 am

Only 1.5km of roadwork remains to be completed on the 70km Nabouwalu to Dreketi highway project in Bua, Vanua Levu.

The $228m project, which started in February 2013, is expected to be completed early next month.

China Railway First Group manager, Peijun Lei, says they’ve completed 99% of work on the site but are left with the remaining roadwork at the Nabouwalu roundabout and another passing lane in the same area.

MWH Global senior engineer, Craig Mocke, says the new sealed road structure has been designed to give it a longer lasting life.

“We have actually strengthened what we call the sub road by using better and stronger materials which will help with the longevity of the road so it’s all designed as per the traffic loading requirements of the road.”

The China Railway First Group has also confirmed they have kept within their $228m budget allocated towards the project.
