Police in Kadavu have deployed a team to investigate claims by people from different villages in Kadavu about a mystery object resembling an aircraft that may have crash landed near the island.

Several villagers claimed that the object resembling an aircraft was seen falling with smoke and fire around 6pm.

They claim that it ended in a loud explosion and tremors were felt.

Kadavu police say they are investigating the claims.

A check with the airport confirmed that the last local flight was at midday today.
