Murder trial continues

The second prosecution witness, Kindergarten teacher Miliana Utuvou will take her stand in the murder trial of former pilot Imshad Izrar Ali today at the Suva High Court.

Police Crimes Officer Maha Ram was cross examined yesterday by defense counsel Abhay Singh.

During his cross examination Maha Ram said the accused was given all his rights before the caution interview started on November 13th, 2009.

It is alleged on November 3rd, Ali murdered his de facto-partner Rajeshni Sharma who was an early childhood Teacher in Rewa Street, Samabula.

Ali’s Defense lawyer argued his client was assaulted but Ram claimed otherwise.

Murder trial continues

The second day of the trial of four men charged with murder continued in the Suva High Court.

Alipate Namoto, Saimone Tucila Senior, Saimone Tucila Junior and Epeli Tucila are charged with one count each of alleged murder in the death of 21-year-old Sitiveni Qali in February 2016.

It is alleged the murder occurred at a service station in Nakasi where the four accused are said to have beaten the man to death.

Prosecution witness – Police Sergeant Jemesa Lave, took the stand today and explained that he was directed to obtain the surveillance footage from the site of the alleged murder at the Mobil Service Station in Nakasi.

Sergeant Lave told the court that on the 19th of February he downloaded the footage to a designated hard-drive which was the part of Police’s operating procedure before transferring it to a compact disc.

The prosecution’s case today was based on verifying the collection of the evidence and ensuring Police procedures were adhered too.

The murder trial continues tomorrow.
