Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says municipalities need to show results to ratepayers.

Special Administrators have been instructed to consult with ratepayers and stakeholders to find what improvements people expect.

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says municipalities need to show results to ratepayers.

Kumar adds they will have to decide how to improve front-end services and facilities while also encouraging municipalities to be innovative.

“You should be able to see what other Municipal Councils are doing and if you feel that they have a good idea that you can use as well please by any means just do that. In the end, what we would like to see is value for money and we want to see happy and satisfied ratepayers who feel that their rates that they are paying are resulting in good projects on the ground.”

The Local Government Minister also advised Special Administrators to use information from consultations with ratepayers to make plans for Fiji’s 50th anniversary next October.
