MSME provides 60% of employment for Fijians

The Micro Small Medium Enterprise sector provides employment to over 60 percent of Fijians currently employed, hence the government is giving the much need attention to the MSME.

Industry and Trade Ministry, Permanent Secretary, Shaheen Ali says the MSME assists Fijians by creating employment opportunities for those who are unable to enter the formal workforce.

Ali says the MSME sector is effectively contributing towards reducing poverty and increasing the standard of living.

He adds the government is also playing an important role in empowering local enterprises.

“Fijian Government has put in place initiatives that aim to support the MSME sector and this is embodied in our five year and twenty year national development plan, the plan sets the foundation of continued efforts to enhance the institutional settings, the access to finance which is always a challenge, the business incubation, training and access to critical markets for MSME’s.”

Ali says the government will continue to assist the MSME sector particularly to strengthen their resilience to withstand any unforeseen circumstances which could impact the Fijian economy.
