The Maritime Safety Authority is expected to have another discussion with ‘Pacific Towing’, the salvage company responsible for removing wrecks from Suva Harbor.

MSAF’s Chief Executive Captain Philip Hill says no government funding has been received yet and they need to update the contractor about the situation.

Captain Hill says once the funding is available then the contractor will be engaged to salvage the remaining fourteen wrecks.

They have already provided an offer, it’s just that we are waiting for the government to make a decision. Fiji Ports may look at other options cause it is their responsibility, MSAF is just coordinating on the removal.

The contractor is currently removing the Southern Phoenix wreckage from Suva Harbor and is expected to finish the job by the middle of next month.
