Motion Defeated 29 to 11

The Opposition’s motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has been defeated in Parliament.

Debate raised issues of a common identity, land rights, education polices and more.

Opposition MP Semesa Karavaki opened the floodgates, proposing that Ro Teimumu Kepa take over the prime ministership.

Impassioned arguments even led some MPs breaking down into tears… opposition in support of their motion raised a number of issues.

Government on the other hand stood in response with all of their members speaking against the motion and reiterating their collective support for the PM.

Twenty eight MP voted against the motion, eleven in favour and eight did not vote.
