The biological mother of the four year old girl who was allegedly raped by her stepfather in Navua took the stand in the Suva high court today.

A 32-year- old man has been charged with two counts of rape and it’s alleged that he raped his de-facto partner’s four-year old adopted daughter on 16th March this year.

The victim’s biological mother informed the court that her aunt had adopted her daughter in 2013.

She informed the court that on March 24th this year, her aunty called her and informed her that the accused had allegedly molested the four-year-old.

While giving evidence, she also informed the court that her aunty had said that she will report the matter to police to protect her adopted daughter.

She further in her evidence said that she went to report the matter at the Navua Police station on the 1st week of April.

She also informed the court that two days prior to reporting the matter to the police she had also spoken to her daughter who had informed her about the alleged incident.

She also informed the court that her aunt was upset with her for reporting the matter to the police as she was still in disbelief and was trying to find out what had actually transpired.

She also confirmed in court that her aunt and the accused were still in a relationship after the alleged incident.

In cross examination she said she reported the matter based on what her aunt and her daughter had told her.
