Mother jailed for hitting daughter with a cooking appliance

A thirty-year-old mother has been sentenced for five months for hitting her six year old daughter with a rice cooker cord and a belt.

She was sentenced by the Nasinu Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The offence occurred in March this year at their home in Narere, Nasinu.

The court heard that Angani Singh maliciously did grievous harm to her daughter for refusing to go to school with her older sister.

The matter was later reported to police by the victim’s teacher after discovering injuries on her body.

The accused has been sentenced for ten months out of which five months have been suspended.
