The court heard she caused the death of her child by not seeking medical attention after giving birth.

Devi wrapped the baby with a bedsheet and left the newborn in the bathroom where he died of suffocation.

Devi has been sentenced to four years imprisonment with a non-parole period of two years.

However considering the time spent in remand, Devi has to spend three years and ten months behind bars before she’s eligible for parole after serving one year and ten months sentence.
