The Attorney General says the government will continue to make inroads in a number of areas that needs to be addressed with Correctional Centers.

Speaking during the Ba Corrections Centre new facilities launching, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum revealed a number of facilities have been neglected over the past years.

“Neglected from the perspective of the facilities that were available for the inmates, the conditions in which they were incarcerated. The conditions ranged from beddings, structure of the buildings and the conditions that they were in.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the government will work towards rectifying these problems.

“But we tend to forget about the last segment of the justice system, it’s not just about the conditions during the incarceration period but it is also about ensuring that when they are incarcerated that we provide them an environment that is conducive for them to be able to realize their self-worth."

Sayed-Khaiyum says they are working closely with the Corrections Service to identify these issues.
