More women are now coming forward to report domestic violence related cases.

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre says sixty-percent of the calls received on its toll free line since March last year are for domestic violence.

The toll free line coordinator at FWCC, Ilisapeci Veivalu says majority of the calls have been coming from the Central and the Western division.

“If its actual domestic violence we straight away go ahead with we call the police and from police we do all the referrals that is needed and if there is need for further counselling it goes back to the FWCC.”

She adds they have been receiving an average of ten calls per day on domestic violence on their toll free line 1560.

Meanwhile, an agreement was signed between the Women’s Ministry and FWCC to further strengthen the partnership to end violence against women and children.

The Women Ministry has provided two hundred thousand dollars to FWCC to operate and manage the toll free line.
