Fiji has progressed in its commitment to promoting, protecting and advancing women’s rights and the equal participation of women in sustainable development.
Director Women – Arieta Moceica highlighted this at the Asian and Pacific Conference on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment: Beijing+20 Review in Bangkok yesterday.
Women’s participation in leadership roles is one of the key components of the Beijing+20.
Moceica informed member countries about Fiji’s significant progress in the 2014 election where more women than ever before stood as candidates.
Fiji has an unprecedented 14 percent of Parliament consisting of women and also has its first female Speaker of the House and the first woman Leader of the Opposition.
The Secretary-General of Parliament and the Secretary to Cabinet are also women.
