The Fiji Cancer Society has seen an increase in the number of women who have come out for medical check-ups this year after hearing cancer survivor stories.

Chief Executive, Belinda Chan told FBC news more young women are aware of the deadly disease and coming to the society for referrals and advice.

“We try and talk to them and explain to them that no matter what happens, we’re here so our tagline for this year was no one fights alone so we want to ensure these young women that we’re here and I know the people of Fiji are here as well because through their fundraising efforts it has allowed us to provide these types of things.”

Chan says they have raised approximately $60,000 so far from the Pinktober awareness last month and is still in the process of receiving more funds.

FCS aims to use the funds to build a new counselling centre for cancer victims and their families.
