Over 400 volunteers showed enormous effort in making the 52nd Asian Development Bank – Board of Governors Annual Meeting a success.

Board of Governors Chair, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says volunteers played an important role in the preparations of meetings and various side events which were held at multiple locations.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the ADB meeting was a good exposure especially for young volunteers – as it showcased what Fiji as a nation is capable of.

“Giving these young Fijians exposure to this event was a great way to help build capacity and set high expectations among our young people of what their nation is capable of achieving.”

He also highlights that the volunteers came as far as Ba, Lautoka, the Coral Coast, and Suva.

“Our volunteers left home when it was dark to get here in time to begin their shifts. And then greet the first delegates in the morning with that special quality of Fijian hospitality.”

Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum will be presenting certificates to all ADB volunteers in Nadi later this afternoon – for their commitment to one of Fiji’s historic hosted events.

The ADB meeting saw more than 3, 000 delegates gather at Denarau in Nadi to discuss issues affecting its member countries.
