More than 24,000 MSMEs since 2008

Over 24,000 individuals are currently part of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise sector in the country since its inception in 2008.

While launching the Fiji Enterprise Engine (FEE) Programme, Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Local Government, and Housing Premilla Kumar says this has contributed over 18% of the GDP and provide employment for approximately 60% of the Fijian labour force.

Kumar says the MSMEs form the backbone of the Fijian economy and the government continues to provide initiatives that will continue to recognize more MSMEs.

“Since 2008, initiatives such as the Northern Development Programme, the Integrated Human Resources Development Programme and Micro and Small Business Grant have formalized over 40,900 MSMEs from all parts of Fiji.

Kumar says MSMEs also help keep our money in our economy which also supports local workers.
She adds they are working on nurturing young entrepreneurs as we invest in the future of Fiji.
