More than 1400 evacuees now being sheltered

There are 86 evacuation centers now open with 1423 evacuees.

According to the latest figures coming out of the National Disaster Management Office, there are 46 evacuation centers in the Eastern division with 416 evacuees, in the Western division there are 11 centers sheltering 162 people.

In the Northern division, 273 people are been housed in 11 evacuation centers.

The largest grouping is in the Central division with 573 evacuees spread across 21 centers.

Meanwhile, residents residing nearby the Rewa river in Nausori are being asked to take extra precautions with the water level reportedly rising drastically.

NDMO is advising that the Navy is currently on hand to assist with evacuations at Waila flats.
