The Ministry of Lands will regularise informal settlements, this time in the Western and Northern Division starting next month.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Lands Mereseini Vuniwaqa during her visit to some informal settlements in the central division earlier this week.

Vuniwaqa said one of the government’s priorities for this year is the regularisation of the tenancy for informal settlements.

She adds this will provide an opportunity for occupants that have been living in squatter settlements to finally own a home and build better homes.

Through the programme, further developments such as the provision of piped-water, proper sewerage systems and electricity will also eventuate.

Two settlements in Navua – Wainidivio and Tokotoko and Velau in Kinoya, have been given approval notices for tenancy.
