More rain expected for some parts of Fiji

The rainy weather is expected to continue in most parts of the country.

Fiji Meteorological Office Director, Ravin Kumar says this is due to an active trough of low pressure which remains slow moving over the group.

Kumar says cloud and rain is expected to affect the group this weekend and possibly into early next week.

“Rain has been continuous in most parts of the country last night and will continue today and tomorrow. We have seen that rain has been affecting the Northern parts of the country and some of the river levels have been increasing and flood alert has been issued for the areas adjacent to the FSC mill and downstream of Ba town. Also the flood alert is now in force for Nasivi and downstream of Tavua town and a flood alert adjacent to major rivers of Vanua Levu and Viti – Levu is now in force. Previously as the heavy rain warning is in force for the Northern and interior parts of Viti-Levu and Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu and Lau and Lomaiviti group and also the strong wind warning for land and waters of Rotuma is currently in force. For the rest of Fiji heavy rain alert remains in force."
