More people getting checked at Saint Giles hospital

October 7, 2018 6:59 pm

The Saint Giles hospital is seeing more patients than ever before.

Senior Medical Officer Dr Elizabeth Koroivuki says they see more than one thousand patients yearly.

“On a yearly basis, we will see more than three thousand patients, who come in – outpatients and then we will have about 600 who will be admitted in the whole year.”

Koroivuki says their inpatients can only stay at the hospital for 90 days and if they are not able to be sent to homes, they have to write to the mental health review to get extensions.

She says it’s a huge challenge to try and get their patients to homes.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is working on to solve this issue.
