More officers deployed for morning patrols

An increased number of Police officers were deployed to the capital city yesterday and this morning to clear the city areas of night revelers.

As part of the ongoing Operation Yadrayadravi, Director Operations SSP Abdul Khan says Totogo Station personnel are not only being boosted by manpower from Headquarters throughout the weekends but in the early hours of the morning, officers residing at the Nasese Barracks were deployed to assist in town coverage.

This is being done to ensure people who go to enjoy the Suva City nightlife are not targeted by criminal elements often because of their intoxicated state, but also to clear the city areas for those going to do their Saturday shopping and conduct their Sunday activities without being hassled.

Up to 30 officers residing at the Nasese Police Barracks were deployed early yesterday and this morning and this will continue throughout the festive season.

Meanwhile, static deployment of officers has been set up at the Miller’s Wharf to counter likely offenses such as theft which is common during this time of year from fishing vessels.

Operations will be beefing up visibility to provide the conducive environment for everyone to enjoy a safe Christmas.
