More needs to be done to improve election processes: MSG SG

Melanesian countries have the capacity to strengthen its electoral processes and to be at par with international countries says the Melanesia Spearhead Group Director General, Amena Yauvoli.

Yauvoli stated the concept of communism needs to be revived and the two days MSG Election Management Bodies workshop testifies to that.

He urged Melanesian countries to learn from past elections experiences and strategize better for the coming elections.

“And for me we still learning because the programme is new and we bringing that together for the first time to enable them to learn from each other. What can they do better or do best in the next coming elections in their respective jurisdictions”.

Meanwhile, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says the lack of funding for the electoral process remains a challenge for most Melanesian countries.

 

“We work on the basis that we are running processes for the voters in our country and we aspire to the best possible means of delivering those processes and in doing so we acknowledge that we have been adequately funded to be able to carry this out for our country”.

He adds engaging local and international stakeholders is an element to address these challenges.
