More Lorries to be used for cane delivery

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has clarified that the same mode of transportation will be used for cane delivery during this crushing season.

This after farmers raised concerns when the Corporation called for an expression of interest from companies that can haul larger volumes of cane to the mills.

Executive chair Abdul Khan says the only difference this year is that more lorries will be used to deliver cane during this season as floods have damaged the rail system.

“The only thing that we looking at doing is because of the damage to some of our rail system we may have to convert to road transport for this year because just that the damage caused to our rail system but other than that I do not see much change this year.”

Khan says the new scheme will likely be put to practice from next year as data collection and evaluation will take time.
