More initiatives to curb violence against women and children

The Fiji Police Force has put some initiatives in place to help curb violence against women in the country.

Defence Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola says the Force has a mutual understanding with UN Women, UNICEF, FWCC, FWRM and MSAP in an effort to help victims and raise awareness on the issue.

Kubuabola says these initiatives include agreements with the Minister for Women and Children, and civil society organizations to help address the issue.

“Fiji Police Force has corporate KPIs specifically target women and child related crimes and these are reducing violence against women by 10 %, reducing violence against children by 10 %. The internal strategies includes Duavata Concept, the implementation through village and school visitation, awareness in Tikina meetings, victims support and etc.”

Kubuabola was responding to a question posed by Government MP Alvick Maharaj on the initiatives the Force is taking to address violence against Women and Children.
