The Fijian Elections Office will focus more on in-door training and in-house activities this year.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says this is part of their preparations for the 2018 general elections.

Saneem says they have projects and exercises to complete that include the GIS mapping of poll venues and the destruction of ballot papers from the 2014 general elections.

“A lot of our work this year is based in-house where we are doing procedures and piloting training, etc in preparation for our next elections so you will not see a lot of FEO officials going out however we do have a planned voter registration exercise for schools again and details of that will be released later when we come close to it."

Saneem says they are also working on publishing a draft voter list so that the public can find where they have to vote or if they’re polling stations have changed.

The Fijian Elections Office will also conduct four BRIDGE workshops this year.

This is aimed to assist election officials to understand the international principles for elections and how it is implemented.
