The Fijian Elections Office has been advised that a lot of work needs to be done prior to the next General Elections in 2018.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Osnat Lubrani says alongside recognizing all the achievements of the 2014 General elections, the UNDP together with Fiji Elections Office feels there is still room for improvement.

“But I also wanted to recall that it was the Fijian Elections Office that alongside recognizing all the achievements really pointed out to some of the areas that could be improved where more work needs to be done and I think congratulations is owed for the Fijian Elections Office for moving forward with further prioritizing the capacity building of staff”

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says there is a real need for capacity building and today begins the first step of training election officials on electoral processes.

The Fijian Elections Office will develop election-based mini courses and certificates which it will recognize in its recruitment for the 2018 General election.
