The Department of Energy in partnership with the Fiji Electricity Authority has earmarked on several more potential hydro sites.
Acting Director for the Department of Energy, Mikaele Belena says their aim is to ensure 90 percent renewable energy supply to the nation by 2025.
“The Wailoa downstream and even the Qaliwana and some which we have studied including the 30 Megawatt hydro project in Namosi and 12 Megawatt in Ba and Wailevu in Cakaudrove that’s about 14 Megawatt.”
Currently the electricity generation is made up of 63 point six percent hydro, 45 point 46 percent Industrial Diesel Oil, zero point three nine percent wind and one point one percent Independent Power Producers (IPP) which are Tropik Wood and FSC.
Belena made the revelations when submitting a response to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Affairs currently reviewing FEA’s 2016 annual report.
