More hopes for people with disabilities

The free screening and operations on persons with disabilities by the Sahyadri Hospital in India is the first of its kind to take place in Fiji.

Fiji National Council for Disable Persons Director General, Dr Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says there will be a lot of positive impact on these offer especially for person with disabilities.

“The main areas of correction that they are looking at are opthomology include visual impairment and orthopedic surgery for those who have deform limbs and all those issues that surrounds the bones and all those things. So we are glad that we have started off some discussions with them in the last couple of weeks and we have decided to take it across the whole of Fiji”.

Yanuyanutawa says the council is working with the ministry of Women Children and Poverty alleviation to identify those that are eligible to undergo operations.

The first phase of screening is scheduled to begin next month.
