More fire stations will be built this year.

National Fire Authority Chairman Francis Kean says a new fire station has been built in Korolevu, Sigatoka and Korovou in Tailevu.

Both stations are expected to be commissioned soon.

There are also plans for a new fire station in Taveuni as well as Seaqaqa.

Kean made the comment at the first ever national firefighting drill competition in Suva today.

Firefighters from all 16 stations around the country are taking part in this competition.

The winning team gets to represent Fiji at the Australian National Firefighting Competition in October.
