The Health Ministry is looking at recruiting more medical officials to help reduce the waiting time for patients at hospitals.
Concerns on the waiting time at hospitals and health centers were raised following the recent surge in flu and virus cases.
Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says there are more than 800 doctors in the country today compared to two decades ago, however more is needed.
“The Government has also ensured that we make significant provisions for recruitment of more nurses and recruitment of more doctors in the establishment.”
Meanwhile, Dr Waqainabete adds apart from general practitioners, specialized doctors will also be engaged on a temporary arrangement.
This arrangement is one of the key strategies undertaken by the Ministry to reduce patient waiting time and reduce workload for doctors.
