More disgruntled consumers are taking their concerns and dissatisfied shopping experience to Court.

Consumer Council Chief Executive, Premila Kumar says many consumers are now bold enough to lodge their complaints with the small claims tribunal.

“In such cases, the council generally assist them. We do hand-holding, fill up their forms, guide them and assist them in filing their cases.”

Kumar says over the festive season from November last year to last month, the council received 771 complaints of which 763 complaints including pending cases from the previous quarter were resolved.

These cases were resolved through mediation – representing a total monetary value of over $1.4 million.
