More consultations needed for 8 Conventions

Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence heard submissions today on the eight conventions that were committed to the Committee during the last Parliament sitting.

The Committee heard submissions made by the Solicitor Generals office and the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

Committee chairman Netani Rika says discussions on the submissions today were fruitful.

“We know that we still need more information and we have agreed to bring in more stakeholders that are relevant to these 8 treaties.”

He adds that this includes the private sector and the Ministry to be part of the deliberations.

The submissions process is due within 30 days from date that it was received and is expected to be submitted to Parliament in the next sitting in August.
