More consultation needed for family care leave: FCEF

The Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation says they have identified loop holes in the management and implementation of the family care leave.
Chief Executive Nesbitt Hazelman says they’ve had talks with their federation members who say the regulations surrounding this leave entitlement are loose.
Hazelman says there is a need for more consultation on the implementation of this newly introduced leave.
“Although the intention was very good to allow people to look after their sick parents and children, the intention is great. But these sort of things if not managed properly, or if there is no regulation around it, will be open to abuse and this is what we are seeing now.”
The employer’s federation says they have notified the employment ministry of all the grievances.
Hazelman says more dialogues is needed between employees and employers so that both the companies and their staff benefit from this initiative.
