More awareness needs to be done regarding the family care leave, paternity leave and the extended maternity leave.

This was highlighted by some of the employers who were part of the new leave provisions workshop that was facilitated by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation in Suva yesterday.
Flour Mills of Fiji OHS Coordinator, Ravin Dayal believes they need more time to familiarize themselves on how to deal with these new laws.

“More of the awareness is there for the organizations and industry, it brings about great awareness and better understanding and it does not bring about confusion where a worker decided to run to the ministry and get clarification.”

Meanwhile, the Employment Ministry has advised employers that genuine reasons from employees are a must in order to be granted these leaves.
