The Mineral Resource Department says it will continue to create awareness to ensure that people do adhere to warnings issued with majority of Fiji’s population living along coastal areas.

Permanent Secretary for Mineral Resource Malakai Finau says they are working towards improving the dissemination of information to the public.

Finau says people living along the coastal areas are most vulnerable and the need to create more awareness will be a challenge for the Ministry.

“Mineral resources conducts awareness, right through our Viti Levu and Vanua Levu and the smaller islands as well because most of our population are coastal communities.”

For some, the experience of the last massive earthquake in 1953 still lingers in their memory and the need to be well informed of any situation is vital.

The Department of Mineral Resource has confirmed that awareness will be done on a timely basis to ensure the public is well informed.
