More assistance for special education

The government will give more assistance to special education says Minister for Education, Dr Mahendra Reddy.

Dr Reddy says more resources should be directed towards special education to ensure that students with special needs are given the attention they deserve.

He says they will be allocating special grants to special schools from 2016.

Already, he says they have increased the grant by 100 percent from $250 per child to $500 per child in the special schools and also to special need students in mainstream schools.

Dr Reddy adds the special grant is separate from the normal grant they pay out to these schools.

The celebration included awards ceremony to recognise the contribution of individuals and corporate bodies towards the development and growth of the Fiji Disable Association and the Special and Inclusive Education Association.
