April 9, 2015 6:18 pm

The Ministry of Lands has admitted that the lack of monitoring has led to irregularities in record keep over the last few years.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Secretary for the Lands Ministry, Malakai Nalawa yesterday.

Nalawa was responding to questions raised about the discrepancies highlighted in the reports from 2007 to 2009 at the Public Accounts Committee meet yesterday.

Nalawa says monitoring and proper evaluation is one of the major challenges for his ministry.

“It’s not really monitoring all other aspects of our responsibilities – like conditions of the lease – we would like that to be monitored, checked on the ground – whether they are developing, whether they are building within the specified period if they are given the residential leases for it. So monitoring is one area that we would like to strengthen.”

He added that in order to overcome this challenge the Ministry has established a monitoring unit, however it will only monitor their annual corporate plan deliverables.
