Monitor your children’s screen time: UNICEF

April 16, 2019 2:30 pm

It’s important for parents to closely monitor their children’s screen time as there’s many risks associated with the use of technology.

The United Nations Children’s Fund says technology is becoming an inseparable part of our lives.

UNICEF’s Pacific Chief of Communication, Cate Heinrich says technology provides tons of opportunities for learning, entertaining, and socializing – but it should be used appropriately.

Heinrich adds they’re working with the Education Ministry to launch a program – which is an educational show both children and parents can watch.

“We encourage parents and children to watch that together. So if there’s interactions in parents or adults, sisters, brothers, relatives and they’re interacting with the young children and they’re learning from those programs – that good play a good role in development.”

UNICEF says studies have also revealed that technology changes the way children socialize and interact with others.
