The Monasavu landowners met with Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum yesterday to discuss a number of issues regarding their land leases.
Comprising of 12 Mataqali’s, the landowners came as a group to discuss some outstanding matters and sought government’s assistance.
Following a dialogue, the members were advised to come up with a unified approach on how best to address the issue.
It is understood that part of the discussion is their lease payments.
Earlier this year a request was made to the government by some disgruntled landowners who wish to receive their payment directly without the lawyer’s involvement.
Sayed-Khaiyum revealed in an earlier Parliament sitting where he claimed a lawyer secured a $50million deal for the Monasavu landowners, however, that lawyer took a healthy chunk as legal fees.
He says the lawyer now pays the landowners on a six monthly basis, which the landowners are not satisfied with, making a request of a direct payment.
The lawyer is also taking a large amount of money from the landowners as an administration fee for facilitating the half yearly payment.
