MOH former employee faces corruption related charges

A former Health Ministry employee has been charged with four counts of abuse of office and one count of obtaining a financial advantage by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Ronal Ritesh Narayan appeared before the Lautoka Magistrates Court with his accomplice Sat Narayan yesterday.

Sat Narayan has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage.

It is alleged between September 2016 and October last year Ronald Narayan while being employed as an executive officer with the Health Ministry abused his authority.

It is alleged he awarded the tender for Nakuilau Nursing Station project to Brink Home Builders – a company he had direct interest in.

It is also alleged that during the same period he awarded other tenders for the Bukuya Health Center, Ba Mission Hospital and the Raiwaqa Health Center projects to the same company.

It is alleged Narayan together with Sat Narayan while obtaining these tenders obtained a financial advantage of over a hundred thousand dollars knowing that they were not eligible to receive this financial advantage.

Both accused were served with the 1st phase of disclosures yesterday.

They have been bailed on strict condition.

The Magistrate ordered them to submit two sureties, report to FICAC Lautoka Office once a week during official hours, a stop departure order has been issued and to not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The matter has been adjourned to the 25th of this month when the 2nd phase of disclosures will be served.
