The findings shown in the Multinational Observer Group’s report represents another historic occasion in our young democracy.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the MOG’s mandate was clear and transparent, as they delivered an independent, professional, and thorough assessment of our 2018 General Election.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the government has invested historic levels of funding towards the Fijian Elections Office and the Electoral Commission in the interest of enhancing our electoral democracy.
He says the MOG report recognizes the establishment of some new practices which aligns Fiji with international standards.
Meanwhile, the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says they will build upon some of the new practices which were introduced.
Saneem says recommendations will be considered.
“It is an emerging practice internationally now to audit the voters’ register. There are some institutions that undertake such tasks and we will consider this positively.”
As per practice, the MOG report will be tabled in Parliament.
The AG says a ministerial statement on the full contents of the report will be delivered in the next parliament session.
