Transport assistance is one of the many Government initiatives targeted at increasing accessibility and equity to quality education.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar earlier this week handed over transport assistance to head of schools from the rural and maritime areas.

The schools that received a boat and an engine each were Davetarua Primary School in Gau, Daku Village School in Tailevu, Komo Village School in Kabara, Nakasaleka District School in Kadavu and Moce District School in Lau.

Wainimala Secondary School in Naitasiri also received an engine for their boat.

The ministry also handed over 2 school buses for Malhaha District/Rotuma High School and St John’s College in Levuka.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has also successfully topped up Government subsidised student eTransport cards (blue cards), which are now eligible for redemption.

To access these funds, all students carrying blue eTransport cards simply need to get the balance loaded onto their cards using the “redeem” function on any eTicketing machines installed on buses, or by visiting any Vodafone/Valuefone and Mr Mobile outlets or District Education Offices.

The students can also use the new e-ticketing KIOSK machines at Suva, Nausori and Nadi bus stands.

Meanwhile, term 2 starts tomorrow.
