One of the most spectacular and highly awaited segments of the Miss World Final is underway –the auditions for the Miss World 2015 Dances of the World.
A few colourful costumes have been displayed on the Miss World website – including Miss Fiji Brittany Hazelman wearing her national dress which is predominately made from hand printed masi, coconut fiber, shells and fresh water pearls from Fiji.
Local designer – Hupfeld Hoerder designed the attire.
He told FBC News, he worked closely with Hazelman to ensure she was comfortable with her attire and that it stayed true to representing Fiji.
“All the different masi are different and some people see it and say it looks Aboriginal but it’s contemporary because it has some Fijian authentic designs on it. It is also modern because we are moving forward but it also shows we hold culture and heritage.”
Hoerder says the costume is also a reflection of Brittany’s heritage of Tongan, European and Fijian.
110 young women are competing for the Miss World title in Sanya, China.
The winner will be crowned on December 19.
