MIOT Pacific denies reports of crisis

May 21, 2019 7:34 am

Private hospital operators MIOT Pacific has shot down reports of a crisis at the hospital despite numerous heart related patients continuing to be turned away because of the departure of the private hospitals partners the Indian based MIOT group.

The Hospital’s executive director Pramesh Sharma says certain critical services have been affected for the last few months because of supply issues.

However according to reliable FBC sources the services have in fact been affected by a dispute between partners BSP and MIOT India.

Cardiac and other special patients from FIJI and the Pacific treated and tested at MIOT more than three months ago were the lucky ones.

Then something happened and certain services such as Cath Labs, CT scans, angiograms and other heart disease related services stopped.

Sharma says the services were withdrawn because the facilities were affected by certain technical and consumable supply issues.

But according to very reliable FBC sources at the hospital these lifesaving services have stopped because the 30% MIOT India shareholders at the hospital had a financial dispute with the 70% majority shareholders, BSP.

These same sources informed FBC News that a few meetings were held to resolve the dispute and when talks failed MIOT India’s doctors and other technical experts who were the only ones who knew how to operate certain million dollar machinery, simply packed up and left.

Since then these critical services have come to a screeching halt with numerous concerns being raised by heart patients who are now seeking treatment at public hospitals and abroad.

Despite the sudden stop in services, Sharma claims the information about the sudden departure of the Indian experts as a result of the financial dispute are based on unfounded speculation that has created negative perceptions about MIOT Pacific.

He assures that the Cath Lab and CT scan services at MIOT Pacific Hospital will be operational in a few weeks.

But Sharma is not saying how this will happen and if the MIOT India specialists will come back and under what circumstances.

Sharma says there are no discussions by BSP Life to engage with any other operator to run the hospital.

He says the Oceania Hospitals Pte Limited is a private entity and it has advised the Minister of Health regarding the service disruptions.

The executive director says they continue to work with the CWM Hospital on looking after services that MIOT Pacific cannot provide in the interim.

Meanwhile FBC sources have also confirmed that MIOT Pacific has advertised vacancies for certain specialist posts that were undertaken by the MIOT Indian team until earlier this year.
