Minors under the spotlight for night life

August 22, 2019 12:50 pm

Night club operators in Suva are now assisting police in its operations by ensuring minors do not enter clubs.

Downunder Pub Fiji Owner, Chris Cook says their security officers are strict on ensuring minors do not successfully get through the door.

Cook says at times police officers also enter the club to check for minors.

“Doesn’t matter mate – I don’t care. There are no friends in this sort of business. Everybody is your friend when you run a nightclub and they could very well be the person that comes on down with someone’s daughter in here and I just don’t want it. So no photo ID – no entry and it’s not negotiable.”

Deputy Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu says security officers from various nightclubs are taking the issue seriously.

“That’s where the security officers have been supporting us by turning away minors and we would like to thank them on that but we haven’t arrested anyone in that regard”

Meanwhile, Police is working with the Suva City Council to include the coverage from a number of existing CCTV cameras into its command centre.

Tudravu says this will help the force monitor activities happening in and around the capital.
